This article does not discuss the definition of “Personal Branding”, I trust you already know that, which is also why you have landed on this page to help you improve personal branding.
In my experience, ‘branding’ is nothing but the trust that the audience places in you and what you speak and promote.
More often than not, I get messages on LinkedIn & Facebook saying “Uday kadali can you help me improve my followers and likes?”
I just want to clarify that, the number of followers and likes do not matter, as much as the engagement to your content does!
Now the big question is, how do I get engagement on my content without followers, right?
If that is your question, then start working on the ground level, and you will be surprised to know that it took me a lot of time to crack this logic!
Let me briefly explain to you, the type of content I worked on for Facebook, LinkedIN and Quora to get the kind of engagement on my profile which we these days call technically “personal branding”
There was a time when I didn’t own a website, but I wanted an audience who trusted me and all I wanted to do was to help budding digital marketers on Facebook, LinkedIN & Quora in their niche.
First, starting with Facebook and LinkedIN, I began joining groups that were related to my niche, i.e.digital marketing & eCommerce groups.
Second, since I was already familiar with SEO , e-commerce SEO & and use of social media networks, I started helping others for free and answered questions whenever they were on Facebook.
For example, the images that you see below are some of the queries that Facebook users that asked about. I tried to help solve their questions by posting my answers in the comment section.
I tried to be consistent with my replies and would answer questions to the best of my ability.
Now, if you are wondering how I benefited through that, let me tell you,
Three ways this helped me in getting started:
1. Users visited my profile and checked the bio and sent me friend requests.
2. People started sending me direct messages asking for a detailed explanation to their queries.
3. A few others asked me if I could coach them (paid service) and help them in their business by using my skill set (freelancing projects).
4. My user engagement rose on the content that would put up as uses believed that was of value.
By indirectly engaging with the users, you can increase credibility of your online profile. The higher the credibility, the more users begin to read your comments section, check your profile, interact and at the end, this is what ‘Personal Branding’ is all about.
Note: Please don’t spam the comments with your urls/ nonsense answers, only answer if you know about the topic in-depth.
Additionally, choose the niche that you are good in, have a certain amount of knowledge about and then choose your audience segment. In my case, I and equipped with e-commerce SEO marketing and help resolve those queries.
Creating content exclusively & easily for Social Media :
Now that you have increased your credibility, you can proceed to the next level and start creating content on your social media profiles.
It might take 5 to 10 mins to create a video or a text format content that provides some value to your audience.
Begin with creating content that you are good at first.
Say for LinkedIn, I would create a 60 second video content, and usually, it takes about 5 mins to create, 20-25 mins to edit and post it on Linkedin/Facebook. It creates a high engagement !
In the same way, a text content on Facebook takes 10 mins to create. The context of the content you are creating could be in different formats. I usually tend to create content related to my experiences and tips/updates on Digital marketing.
Creating content on social media helped me build my brand because. This is because my audience derived a certain value from my content, and above all, I create content with nearly no cost, and no website. (However, a few years later I started my blog which you, the one you are currently reading now).
In the end, I just want to say that, be consistent and patient, it took me a lot of time to build this ecosystem and I can assure you that if you are at it took then you too will see results.
Below are a few screenshots about my work. I apologize for the image, names and details have been hidden for client privacy.
I would like to end on one note. Be genuine to yourself and to your audience, you will definitely get work.
If you too have shared experiences similar to mine in terms of getting clients on board with the help of social media, please share more about it below in the comments section.
All the best to you!
